Try Dry Campaign aims to raise $10,000 for DOAP team

CALGARY, Dec. 15, 2019 – The Boring Little Girls Club (“BLGC”) kicks off their Dry January fundraiser from January 1-31, 2019 to raise funds for the Downtown Outreach Addictions Program (“DOAP”) and encourage sobriety among all Canadians.

The Try Dry fundraiser aims to raise $10,000, with 90 per cent of proceeds going to the DOAP team. The BLGC is encouraging those who are not sober to pledge to abstain from alcohol and drugs for the whole month and donate the money not spent on alcohol to the campaign. For those who don’t wish to become sober, there are opportunities to sponsor other members of the community in their sobriety journey for the month. The money raised in this campaign is crucial for Calgary and the Alpha house outreach program. After facing provincial budget cuts, the DOAP team requires $20,000 a month more than currently available to run a successful program.

“This isn’t just a financial issue, people are dying on the streets,” says Kira Dunlop, BLGC president, “we can’t isolate those who are struggling with addiction”

In the 2018-2019 year alone, the DOAP team transported close to 21,000 people. The DOAP team is an essential service within in the inner city, supporting those under the influence of alcohol or drugs and providing resources, safety, shelter and detox.

Those wishing to give up alcohol for the month can donate straight to the BLGC via e-transfer or the website. Those wishing to support others during Try Dry can sponsor one of the Go Fund Me Pages, also located on the BLGC website and social media.

About the Boring Little Girls Club

We are an organization that provides a sober space for women, transgender and non-binary people to form a sense of community without the need for alcohol and drugs. We provide the necessary community aspect of recovery without being a mandated recovery program. Rather, we expect all members of our community to be sober, considering sobriety or hoping to become sober. The Boring Little Girls Club regularly runs and attends events as a sober force in the community. We are also supporters of the LGBTQ2+ community and advocates for mental health organizations throughout the city.
