Book Review- First, We Make the Beast Beautiful

Have you ever read a book that so closely resembled your life and feelings that you found yourself nodding along in every section?

That was this book for me.

Now, with every self-help style of book, there are going to be times where the author thinks that they are the expert on a situation, even when they aren’t (this author doesn’t have any scientific education or training).

5 Creepy but Cool Places to Visit in Canada

Today we are talking about 5 creepy but cool places that you can visit in Canada (when the pandemic is over). I personally love to explore fun places when I travel, I am not one of those people who can sit by the beach for an entire vacation. I’m also fascinated by creepy or weird things, even though I have a very low tolerance for horror. So, without further adieu, let’s talk about some creepy but cool Canadian locales!

6 Calgary Black-Owned Businesses You Can Support in 2021

What’s up friends? It’s the last week of Black History Month, so what would be more fitting than to shoutout some of the amazing black-owned businesses right here in YYC!

There are so many amazing businesses that are run by Black Calgarians and this blog post only covers a few. However, you can find an entire list here!

While looking through this list, I realized that I know about some of these businesses but I’ve never supported them through purchasing. I know that I can do better at supporting the people in my community, especially during a pandemic, so I’m going to try and support one Black-owned business each month! Follow along on my Instagram to see which ones I choose.

I Tried Renting Clothes for a Month and this is how it Went

About a month ago, Cassidy and I went to the Pop Up Consignment Boutique at National on 10th. While there, we met Charlotte from Ce Cpace. The three of us got to talking and Charlotte told us about her idea of creating a rental service for the Calgary area where people could rent second-hand and vintage pieces for a period of time and return it later or swap it for something else. A few days later, I visited her store and picked out a few pieces of my own to try for the month and get the word out about this awesome service.

Creating a Sanctuary Space

Today I want to talk about creating a sanctuary space within our own homes or living spaces to help deal with anxiety. I can’t take credit for this idea. I came across it during the Project Nightlight Wellness Challenge in March. Project Nightlight is a great local non-profit that speaks out about mental health and ending the stigma surrounding mental illness. You can visit their website here.

Book Review: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

I am very open about my… dislike of Mockingjay, the last book in the Hunger Games trilogy. However, I am so entranced by the world of Panem that I would read a book about each of the first 73 Hunger Games. That’s why when Suzanne Collins announced that she would be releasing a prequel to the series, I knew I had to give it another shot.

5 American Tourist “Traps” that are Actually Worth Visiting

Since we can’t travel, I’ve naturally been thinking constantly about travel. What I have been realizing is that a lot of my favourite places include what most people would call “tourist traps”. If you don’t know, tourist traps are defined as “a crowded place that provides entertainment and things to buy for tourists, often at high prices”, and they are often looked down upon or avoided by the travel community. As someone who doesn’t really love crowds and hates being taken advantage of as a tourist, I totally get that. However, I think there are some great destinations and attractions that get overlooked by people who want to stay off the beaten path. By all means, go out and explore other things, but these are the five American ‘tourist traps’ that I think are worth the visit.

How to Create an Aesthetic Instagram Feed

Whether you only have your personal Instagram or you’re in charge of managing upwards of 10 accounts (that’s me lol), you are likely concerned about your feed. After all, Instagram is a photo-sharing platform turned marketing tool turned influencer hub. While you might only be sharing photos with 50 of your closest friends, having an aesthetic feed can be super fun. However, if you are running a business or trying to appeal to a large group of people, an aesthetic feed is a must. Here are my tips on how to create an aesthetic Instagram feed that represents your brand.

The 5 Most Obscure Places I’ve Visited

While travelling in LA last month, my Dad introduced me to Atlas Obscura, a website that tracks the most obscure places in the world. I went through the website to track all of the places I’ve been to and add in the ones that I want to visit. I thought it would be fun to write about the 5 weirdest and obscure places that I’ve travelled. There will be a part 2 where I talk about the 5 most obscure places on my bucket list.
