Current Favourites (January 2021)
Hey ya’ll!
How are you all liking the new website?
I’m very happy with how it turned out and ready to get back to the weekly blog posts. I haven’t really figured out how to notify ya’ll about the blog posts yet, so for now, stay tuned to here on Tuesdays or on my Instagram for a reminder.
Today we are talking about the things that I have been loving throughout the month of January.. can you believe that it’s already February? I definitely cannot.
Okay let’s do this.
Note: all photos belong to the brand unless it is a photo of my face.
Fashion
Have I really had an excuse to wear clothes other than sweatpants? No.
Have I been wearing clothes other than sweatpants? Not really.
Here are the two sweaters that I’ve worn that aren’t considered hoodies lol.
Zara Minimalist Sweatshirt- On sale for $5.99
When I saw this sweater on Instagram, I knew it would be perfect for me because I could get away with wearing a literal sweatshirt under the guise that it is semi-professional looking. I picked it up in the shade Sand and chose to get a size large, which is the perfect size for me. The fabric is really thick, which means that it can keep you warm. However, it is also cropped, giving you the perfect length when you wear it with jeans. I hope they bring more sizes back in stock, but the fact that it’s marked down to 70% off means that they likely won’t.
Garage Kaylee Cardi- $39.99
I actually picked this up when I was at the mall looking for something else (did I find it? who knows). The buttoned-up cardigan as a shirt trend has been one of my favourites but I had yet to actually find one that would fit the trend. I don’t like really tight-armed cardigans and I don’t like anything itchy, so I was having trouble ordering online for fear of terrible fabric or squashed arms. The fabric for this cardigan is not itchy but feels nice on the skin. I also got it in a large so that the arms would be baggier. I really like how this sweater gives a slight glimpse of cleavage but in an understated way. I chose the colour Chinois Green (it’s turquoise but okay, Garage). I’ve been wearing this non-stop and I’m definitely going to pick up at least one more.
Literally any toques
We call them toques in Canada, but for those who don’t speak Canadian, we’re talking about beanies! If I didn’t get so warm when I literally move, I would wear beanies 365 days of the year. However, winter is generally the only time that I feel cold enough to wear them. Not only do toques keep you warm, but they are amazing for those bad hair days or when I definitely should have washed my hair three days ago (oops). My favourites are from Artizia and Walmart (yes, I’m aware of the extreme difference there).
Makeup
Makeup and skincare time! Let’s gooo!
I try a lot of mascara because apparently, I’m never happy with my lashes. I tried this when I put in my order for my all-time fave Glossier Boy Brow and it does not disappoint. I like to have different mascaras for different moods and this one’s mood is like “natural beauty with a hint of lash perfection” (even as I wear a full face of makeup). This definitely does not give the same volume and blackness as the Essence Lash Princess mascara, but it gives beautiful length and makes my lashes look natural and perfect. It also doesn’t smudge underneath my eyes. WIN WIN WIN.
The Ordinary Niacinimide- $5.99
First of all, the prices of The Ordinary are crazy. We’re talking $5! Niacinimide is great for clearing up blemishes and decongesting the skin. I had been using a face oil that totally clogged my pores and made my skin uncomfortable so I switched to this and it cleared up my skin right away! I use this all over my face at night (though you can use it in the morning as well) and it definitely helps keep my skin clearer and more smooth.
Colourpop Making Mauves Palette- $14USD
It’s no secret that I love Colourpop and would own literally all of their products if I could. Let’s be clear though if I could only own one Colourpop product, it would be their eyeshadow palettes, and more specifically, it would be the Making Mauves Palette. I love the cool-toned purples in this palette and they blend together very well. There are so many easy looks to try and very pigmented.
Movies/TV
Younger (Amazon Prime)
A 40-year-old woman can’t find a job in publishing so she tells everyone that she is 26. My uncle recommended this show to me and I have been hooked since I started it in December. There are currently 6 seasons and the show isn’t over yet, which is good because I just started season 6 and I’m not ready to move away from these characters. This may also be the first show with a straight love triangle where I’m actually rooting for both couples.
Blown Away (Netflix)
This show is actually so cool. This is a competition-style reality show that focuses on glass blowing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen art as extreme as glass blowing. I don’t think I can even explain how crazy this show is. You just need to watch.
Flack (Amazon Prime)
When I saw that Amazon was releasing a show about PR, I knew I had to watch it (if you don’t know, I’m a PR major). This show is like Scandal but instead of crazy politicians, the focus is crazy celebrities. The show is set in Britain and follows a PR firm that deals with tons of celebrity clients and their horrible PR mess-ups. It’s a little bit crazier than Scandal but it is enjoyable and the characters are seemingly more realistic than Scandal. I will say though, not all PR people are like this (it kind of gives us a bad name lol).
Podcasts
Dateable
The Dateable Podcast is a podcast that talks about all things dating and relationships in a relatable and fun way. I love the hosts and I love listening to their guests and their stories about dating mishaps, trying Tinder in tons of different cities and more. They also have a great Facebook group for advice, live shows and more. I think if you’re dating or even in a relationship (i’d assume, since I am probably the person with the longest single streak in history), it is a great podcast for improving your relationship and learning about your dating tendencies.
The Sesh
Having listened to Kendall and Janelle on the Mile Higher Podcast (which is also a good podcast), I knew that when they branched out on their own for the Sesh, I had to listen. Unlike Mile Higher, which only focuses on the paranormal, true crime and conspiracies, the Sesh has tons of super fun topics, including their * spicey topics * section that they have at the beginning of each episode. They are also just super friendly and fun to listen to, which makes me want to listen even more! I like to watch this podcast on Youtube too, because then it just shows up in the feed that I’m already scrolling through.
Working Title
Everytime I watch one of Margot Lee’s videos, I feel like I’m transported into some beautiful, alternative universe where everything is lovely. Her podcast is no different. This is one of the most unique podcasts that I’ve ever listened to, because Margot creates almost a vlog style podcast. In this first episode, she mainly discusses how stuck she was in the process of creating a podcast, and she includes recorded conversations that she’d had with other people to get to this point. In her second episode, she discusses the process of finding an apartment in NYC with her roommate and takes us along on a verbal tour of the apartments. I just really love the way that she combines recordings of her life with her stories. It’s a super cool podcast with short episodes.
Music
Drivers License
I’m definitely not the only person who’s been obsessed with this song (since it’s basically gone viral on tik tok) but as cliche as it sounds, it’s a damn good song. Did I think I would be caught up in the random drama of three Disney Channel stars from shows that I don’t watch? No. But at least some good music came out of it.
All Three
We STAN Miley Cyrus in this house, which means that we also stan Noah Cyrus. Despite my earlier statement of being the longest-running single person in the world, I somehow relate to all of her songs about breakups and crazy relationships. The line in this song that gets me every time: “ playing fuck, marry and kill, honey you’re all three.” DAMN GIRL OKAY WE SEE YOU.
Anyone
Did I think going into 2021 that there would be a Justin Bieber song on my playlist? No sir. But here we are. I just really like this song. I feel like it’s different from Justin’s more recent pop-dance music and I really like it.
What have you been loving this month?
